Measure the
garment, not you.
Every piece is cut relaxed. The fastest way to get this right is to measure a garment you already own and like, laid flat, and match it to the table.
Each table is the maker's published measurement for the exact garment the piece is made on, in inches. Garments are measured laid flat, so width is across the chest and waist is across the waistband; the maker allows a small tolerance on every figure. Between two sizes, take the larger for a looser fit.
How to measure
Lay the garment flat, fasten nothing, and measure straight across one inch below the armhole. Double it for the full circumference.
From the highest point of the shoulder seam straight down to the hem. Keep the tape flat; do not follow the curve.
Measure the waistband flat and relaxed, not stretched. These are elastic, so the relaxed figure is the one that tells you the fit.
Between sizes?
The cut is relaxed with a dropped shoulder. Size down for a standard fit, stay where you are for the intended one.
